Modern Slavery Statement

HUMAN TRAFFICKING AND MODERN SLAVERY DISCLOSURE STATEMENT

In compliance with the regulations of the UK Modern Slavery Act of 2015 (“MSA”), the following Statement discloses and updates the policies and actions of Wakefield Shirt group of companies including Double Two/Wm. Sugden & Sons Limited relating to human trafficking and modern slavery in our own global supply chain.
This has been another challenging year with labour shortages caused by ongoing Covid pandemic and Brexit. The impact has been greatly felt by retailers, suppliers and workers within our supply and distribution chain. The crisis in Ukraine created the movement of refugees fleeing their homes and increased the risks of human trafficking and forced, bonded and child labour.
Wakefield Shirt group of companies is committed to continuously monitoring and improving the effectiveness of our prevention efforts to eliminate any form of human trafficking or modern slavery in the factories producing fabric and garments to our order.
We expect our suppliers not to accept forced, bonded or child labour and we rely on audits and visits to ensure that this is the case. We have made sure that our suppliers received the human rights and modern slavery training with pictorial evidence of training sessions and signatures of the people who attended. We have also collected pictorial evidence of new antislavery posters in local languages displayed in the common areas of our suppliers’ factories.
Last year we welcomed the important role the Independent Anti-Slavery Commissioner (IASC) has taken engaging with businesses, identifying best practice. IASC has created maturity framework with its four clearly defined stages. We have assessed ourselves against the IASC framework and predominantly sit in the “Evolving Good Practice” category. This clear structure enables us to continually improve in tackling modern slavery. Our message to our customers and business partners is very clear - we always treat people fairly. This means we will continually review and improve our policies, practices and procedures so that we can fulfil this commitment.
This statement is made pursuant to section 54(1) of the Modern Slavery Act 2015 and constitutes Wakefield Shirt group of companies slavery and human trafficking statement for the financial year ending 31st March 2022.
